1. I’ve been working on a drawing of a photo I took of the Italian city of Matera during our visit there last week. The scene is of the Sassi di Matera (“the stones of Matera”), a prehistoric settlement of houses carved into rock along a ravine.
    I wanted to highlight the bits of greenery around the city’s homogenous-colored buildings and to zoom in enough to throw off depth perception of a city so jam-packed that some of its streets cross over houses’ rooftops. And I thought Somerville was densely populated..
